Born in Paris, he appeared in films such as "Les Enfants du Paradis" (1945), "Voici le Temps des Assassins" (1956), Claude Chabrol's "Le Beau Serge" (1958), "Les Cousins" (1959), as John Wayne's sidekick in "Hatari!" (1962), "Via Margutta" (1963), "Un Homme de Trop" (1967), "Le Pélican" (1973), Wim Wenders' "Der Amerikanische Freund/The American Friend" (1977), "Utopia" (1978), "Si Je Réponds Pas, C'est que Je Suis Mort" (1982), "La Derelitta" (1983), "Poussière d'Ange" (1987), "L'Enfant de l'Hiver" (1989), "Jusqu'au Bout de la Nuit" (1995) and "Bandits d'Amour" (2001). As a filmmaker, he is remembered for "Les Amis/The Friends" (1971) "Le Rebelle" (1980), and "Pierre et Djemilia" (1987).
