Laura “Lee” Snyder, 86, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Thursday, June 30, 2016, at Ottawa Retirement Village.

Celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, July 9, 2016, at the First Assembly of God, 520 E. 13th, Ottawa.

Private inurnment to be held at a later date at Glenwood Municipal Cemetery, Glenwood, Iowa.

Lee was born Sunday, January 19, 1930, in Ada, Oklahoma, the daughter of Claude Landon and Martha Olive Marie “Ollie” (Tabor) Haskins.

She was a resident of Missouri, primarily Kansas City, Oak Grove and Independence. In 2010, Lee moved to Ottawa, where she made her home until her death.

She graduated from Ava High School, Ava, Missouri.

Lee was united in marriage with Elmer Ray Snyder November 1, 1952, in Kansas City, Missouri. They later divorced.

Survivors include her two children, Gary Snyder and wife Kristy of Ottawa, and Diana Raybourn and husband Jim of Glenwood, Iowa; brother, Denzil Haskins and wife Donna of Marshfield, Missouri; two grandchildren, Joshua Snyder and wife Chelsea of Baldwin City, and Jonathan Snyder and wife Brittne of Altus, Oklahoma; two great grandchildren, Samantha Snyder and William Snyder; many nieces and nephews; and her friend and roommate at ORV, Joyce Shipps.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Matthew Raybourn; parents, Claude and Ollie Haskins; and three siblings, Reva Richeson, Earlin Haskins, and Mary Jane Goedecke.

Lee was employed for three years as a cashier in the men’s department with JCPenney. She retired due to a disability, in 1966.

Lee was a devoted lifelong homemaker who loved being at home with her family. She enjoyed reading mystery novels and was known for her baking, especially during the holidays and for family gatherings.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Ottawa Retirement Village Activity Fund or First Assembly of God c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067. Family and friends are encouraged to post their condolences and memories on Lee’s Tribute Wall at www.dengelmortuary.com
