After researching and talking about Mary this is all I know. She was born either Blount Country Alabama or South Carolina. According to a paper from John Porter's memorial she was born on January 15, 1824 the daughter of Elisha Hix and Faribay (née Gurley) Hix. Elisha purchased 39 acres in 1838. Mary married John Porter on January 12, 1843. Mary had a brother Robert Anderson Hix.
