Katherine Elizabeth "Kitty" (Agner) Davenport, 97, of Waynesboro passed away Monday, July 4, 2016 at Augusta Health. Born October 11, 1918 in Staunton, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Harvey and Lois Abagial (Fretwell) Agner.

Katherine was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, Waynesboro. She retired from Carilion Associated Physicians where she worked as a registered nurse. Both she and her husband were co-founders of the Association for Retarded Citizens of Augusta and Vector Industries. Kitty was responsible for developing the first Special Ed classroom in the area school system.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William A. "Bill" Davenport, III; son, Thomas William "Tommy" Davenport; one brother, William Agner; one sister, Jane Cooke.

Survivors include one nephew, Dr. James R. Cooke, Jr. and wife, Cindy; special friends, Norma Lee Braden and John Griffin; as well as her canine companion, "Sassie".

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 8, 2016 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 618 W. Main St., with Chaplain Richard Ammons officiating. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kitty's memory to the Auxiliary Waynesboro First Aid Crew, 201 W. Broad St., Waynesboro, VA 22980, Vector Industries, 1300 Hopeman Parkway, Waynesboro, VA 22980 or the Association for Retarded Citizens of Augusta, 1025 Fairfax Ave., Waynesboro, VA 22980.
