Linda Gayle (Smith) Malone, 78 of Fort Sumner, NM passed away Saturday, July 2, 2016, at Providence Hospice Place in Waco, TX after a courageous battle with cancer. Linda was born January 14, 1938, to the home of J.W. and Vera (Wampler) Smith. She graduated from Floyd High School in Floyd, NM in 1955. She worked for many years at the True Value in Fort Sumner, owned by the Eastwood and Thomson families. Before retirement she worked as manager for a convenience store in Fort Sumner.
Linda is preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, James W. Smith.
Survivors include a brother, Harley Newt Smith and his wife Cathy of Hewitt, TX and their family; and a sister, Ronda Jay Holcomb and husband Johnny of Farmington, NM and their family. She is also survived by her best friend, Inky Thomson of Fort Sumner, along with many other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 7-8 pm at Chavez Funeral Home. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10am Saturday, July 9, 2016, in the Smith family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery with Anna Teeter-Gentile officiating. Pallbearers will be Linda's nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials in Linda's name to Providence Hospice Place, 6700 Sanger Avenue, Waco, TX 76710.The family would like to thank Dr. Thomas Harris of Texas Oncology and Providence Hospice and Providence Hospice Place all of Waco, TX for the excellent care Linda received.
