Nancy Liles Abernethy Norton, 81, of Wilmington passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2016.
She was born on July 29, 1934 in Gastonia, NC to the late, Allen Liles and Elizabeth Liles. The family relocated to Wilmington during World War II and there after called Wilmington home.
Nancy graduated from New Hanover High School in 1952. After working briefly for the FBI in Washington DC she returned to Wilmington and worked for 10 years at CIT Credit Corp after which she worked for 30 years for Babcock & Wilcox American Crane in Wilmington.
On August 10, 1957 she married William Abernethy. On September 18, 1962 her only child William Abernethy, Jr. was born. Her husband died in August of 1974 and her son died in August 2012. She was also preceded in death by her only sibling, Brenda Liles Poole and her husband, James L. Poole.
On September 12, 1986 Nancy married W. Ben Norton, Jr. who survives her. Nancy was a long time member of Long Leaf Baptist Church where she and Bill were married. They joined Pine Valley Baptist where she was a member for 53 years.
Funeral services will be held at 11am Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Pine Valley Baptist Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service starting at 10am. Burial will follow the service at Oleander Memorial Gardens.
