In the pages of her 1995 Sayville High School yearbook, Michelle Marie Young's future seemed inevitably bright.
She was co-captain of the cheerleading squad, a member of the National Honor Society and, in a hint of her fun side, part of a winning lip-synching team that sang "Do You Love Me?" By 29, she was already a finance professional with a master's degree, the married mother of a young daughter, and soon expecting a second child. She had an infectious smile and good-humored personality. Leafing through her yearbook, Stettine pointed out the many pages with Young's photograph or name on them: smiling at the frozen yogurt store where she worked, writing about snacking during class and listing her career goal as tax lawyer. Michelle was known at Sayville High School in Long Island, New York as Michelle Fisher, and was a popular cheerleader whose team won the Long Island Cheerleading Association's championship in 1995. She and Jason Young both graduated from North Carolina State University and still attended the school's football games. They both spent a lot of time playing in their yard with their daughter, Cassie.
