Isham VINCENT, son of Peter, was born 13 Aug 1770 in NC.
The VINCENT family lived in the Beaver Dam District of Granville Co, NC (previously Bute Co), which, in the late 1700's, was considered to be one of the most prosperous and desirable districts to live in NC. The 1786 NC State Census included the Peter VINCENT family which consisted of 1 white male 21-60, 3 white males under 21 or over 60 and 6 white females. Peter lived in the Hillsborough District in Granville Co, NC for the 1790 census. Isham is Peter's only child. No wife's name for Peter has been found. Peter died between 1791-1800.

Peter VINCENT served in the French and Indian Wars from Granville Co, NC. His name is in the 8 Oct 1754 muster roll. His regiment, which also included Peter SMART, father of Laban, did service in VA. Peter was on the 1760 Granville Co, NC list of tithables with 1 tithable.

Isham VINCENT married Martha SMART, daughter of Laban SMART and Susannah SIMMONS, in NC ca 1805. Around 1806 Isham moved his family from NC to KY where they remained until 1817. He was listed in the 1818 IL State Census in Madison, Co.
Isham and Martha were in Wood River, Madison Co, IL for the 1820 census.
They were in Madison Co, IL for the 1830 census.
They were in Silver Creek Twp, Madison Co, IL for the 1840 census.

According to the History of Madison Co, IL, Isham settled near the vicinity of Troy in Madison Co, IL about 1817 where he taught school for about 3 years. He then relocated to Olive Twp in Madison Co, IL where he erected a cabin on the bank of a stream. It was due north of the Vincent Cemetery.

Isham's cabin was a stopping place for travelers for many years. A barrel of whiskey was kept in his cabin, ready for weary travelers. His cabin also served for many years as the voting place for Silver Creek precinct as well as a meeting house for other "Hard shell Baptists", as Isham was.

Isham also operated a horse mill and made good quality flour for the day. For several years, he served as Justice of the Peace for his area.

Isham died at his home on 26 Feb 1849. His death was followed less than 2 weeks later by the death of his wife, Martha, on 8 Mar 1849.

The Vincent Cemetery was established by the Vincent family. The first burial there was son Edwin ca 1824-25.

Isham and Martha had 8 children:
1. Elizabeth "Betsey" was born in KY on 31 July 1807 and died in Madison Co, IL on 3 Sept 1839. She married Peter Long, son of James LONG and Prisclla LASWELL, on 9 Oct 1823 in Madison Co, IL.
2. Lemuel B. was born in KY on 30 Nov 1809 and died on 11 Aug 1829.
3. Mary (Polly) Ann was born in KY on 27 Feb 1812 and died on 27 Feb 1846. She was married to John White KEOWN and Nicholas BARTLETT.
4. Henry S. was born in KY on 5 Sept 1814 and died on 8 May 1837.
5. Barbara Allen was born in Madison Co, IL on 4 June 1818 and died on 6 Apr 1902. She was married to William Wriley PEARCE.
6. Martha Smart was born in Madison Co, IL on 23 Mar 1821 and died in 1907. She was married to Isaac Wriley PEARCE and William EAVES.
7. Susannah W. was born on 11 July 1823 and died on 1 Apr 1829.
8. Edwin was born and died ca 1824-25. He was the first to be buried in the Vincent Cemetery.
