"Jeff ran a cotton gin for many years and farmed, hiring hands to do the labor. Jeff was an active Mason and Sally enjoyed the Order of the Eastern Star. Eight children were born to them: Mattie, 1894; Clyde,1896; Dewey, 1898; Melvin called Speck, 1900; Annie Mae, 1902; Alice,1904; Sally Kate, 1908; and Woodrow, 1913. All went to Wylie schools until 1912 when they moved east of town and they went to Kreymer School. Sally died suddenly in Oct 1915. The following year, Jeff married the widow of Walter Wood, the
former Sallie B. Swaner. The family moved to Portales, NM, in 1926 where Sallie's brother was doing well. Jeff had a difficult first year but his next 12 provided a comfortable living, He died in Apr 1939 and was buried in Portales."
