Iris Lorraine (Conkey) Sanders, 83, Hayden, died Aug. 1,2003, at Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d'Alene.

She was bom Dec. 16, 1919, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Howard and Inez (Luke) Conkey. Iris grew up in Sanborn, Iowa, and graduated from high school there.

On June 29, 1938, she married James S. Sanders Jr. in Elk Point, S.D., and they continued to live in Sanborn for many years. In 1963, they moved to Rapid City, S.D., and Iris worked at the Safeway. They retired in 1977 and moved to Hayden.
Iris and James were both active members of the National Association of Veteran Retired Railway Employees for many years and Iris attended First Presbyterian Church in Coeur d'Alene. She enjoyed traveling and cooking and loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Iris is survived by her husband of 63 wonderful years, James S. Sanborn Jr. of Hayden; son James S. Sanders III, Coeur d'Alene; daughter Sherry L Morfitt, Wolf Lodge; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Emily Sue, a sister and a brother.
A celebration of life gathering will take place at 3 p.m. Aug. 16 at the Morfitt Ranch.
