Maria Marina Pasquinelli Centoni, age 93, a resident of Northridge
Medical & Rehabilitation Center, in Manitowoc, died Thursday, Oct. 28,
2004 at the Aurora Medical Center in Two Rivers.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30,
2004 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mishicot, with the Rev. Paul
Paider officiating, with burial to follow in the parish cemetery.
Maria was born March 9, 1911 in Badia Pozzeveri, Italy, to the late
Pasquale and Adele D'Alcero Centoni. She grew up in Badia Pozzeveri,
Italy, in the region of Tuscany and attended the local schools there.
Maria was usually known as Marina to her friends and Nonna Marina to her
family. She married Settimo Pasquinelli on Sept. 4, 1932 in Altopascio,
Italy, and the couple enjoyed 26 years of marriage, until his death in
1958. Marina lived in Italy and was a homemaker and a talented
seamstress. Sewing, crocheting, and knitting were her life long hobbies.
Her family enjoyed her creations over the years. In the 1950s, she
emigrated to the United States with her daughter to join he husband. She
and her family made their home in New Jersey and made a life in the
United States. Marina worked at the Charms Candy Factory after she was
widowed. She later returned to her hometown in Italy and enjoyed sewing,
raising hens, tending her garden, the grape vines and the olive trees.
She also enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. Marina spent
many years traveling to Wisconsin visiting her family, her "bimbe" and
beloved granddaughters. Her "bimbe," her girls were always uppermost in
her thoughts no matter what side of the world she lived in. She was
always our "Nonna Marina." Several years ago, Marina came to the United
States again to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Leda and James
McCarthy of Mishicot.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law: Leda and James McCarthy
of Mishicot; two granddaughters: Kathleen (Travis) Stock of New
Holstein; Patricia McCarthy of Two Rivers, and her former spouse,
Francis Barbuto of Two Rivers; and three great-grandchildren: Anthony
Barbuto, Savannah and Victoria Stock. She is further survived by a
nephew: Ricardo (Anita) Matteni of Altopascio, Italy; a niece: Alba
(Nino) Centoni of Fucecchio, Italy; many great nieces and nephews and
their families of Italy and Cannes, France; along with a special friend:
Carmella Nardone and her family of Badia Pozzeveri, Italy. In addition
to her husband, she was preceded in death by twin sons; two brothers and
sisters-in-law: Gino (Elide) Centoni and Renato (Vittoria) Centoni; and
by one sister and brother-in-law: Emma (Gustavo) Mateoni; and by a
nephew and his wife: Mauro and Carla Centoni.
Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday (TONIGHT) at
the Lambert-Eckert Funeral home in Mishicot. There will be a 7 p.m.
Parish wake service Friday evening at the funeral home. Visitation will
continue after 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home until leaving
for the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross.
All these years weren't enough. You will be missed. Once again, we wish
you buon Viaggio!!. Non sei mai dimenticata, sei sempra amata! You will
never be forgotten, you will always be loved.
The family wishes to thank the many people who provided care for Nonna
Marina. A special thank you to the entire staff of Northridge,
especially to the 500 wing staff, Debbie, Polly, Sue, Mary and Ralene.
We would also like to say grazie to Dr. Brian LaLiberte and the third
floor staff at the Aurora Medical Center of Two Rivers, for their
special care shown to Nonna Marina during her illness, and to Paola for
translation, and Home Health Care Nurses and nursing staff for all of
their assistance.
