Virgil G. Morris, age 94 of Hesperia, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2016 at the Mercy Health Partners – Sherman Campus. Virgil was born on April 2, 1922 in Rushville, Illinois to Everette and Julia (Wright) Morris and later moved to the Grand Haven area where he graduated high school. Soon after graduation, Virgil joined the United States Navy and was stationed in California where he met and married Grace A. Sherfy on December 4, 1944 in Walnut Creek, California. Grace preceded him in death on April 30, 1995. Virgil later married Catherine "Babe" VanBogelen on July 10, 1971 in Spring Lake. Catherine preceded him in death on November 19, 2006. Virgil had worked at Lappo Lumber in Fruitport as a salesman for 35 years until his retirement. Virgil was a veteran of the United States Navy where he served during World War II and was a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion. Virgil had also been a member of the Holton United Methodist Church and enjoyed golfing, pitching horseshoes, playing cribbage and Euchre, watching and feeding the birds, woodworking and crossword puzzles.

Virgil is survived by his children, Linda (Dale) White of Fredericktown, Missouri, Wayne (Peggy) Morris of White Cloud; Ginny (Dennis) Byrne of Marne, twins, Rick Morris and Ronald (Cindy) Morris of Fredericktown, Missouri; Catherine's children, Glenda Kay Andersen of Twin Lake; Kimberly Raye Schubert of Muskegon; James A. Schubert of Spring Lake; Mitchell (Linda) Schubert of Missouri; Bradley (Antonette) Schubert of Fruitport; 10 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; his sister, Maxine Morris Blanchard of McAllen, Texas. Virgil was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen A. Morris; his stepson, Terry Schubert; his sister, Evelyn Morris Kamp; and his parents, Everette and Julia Morris.
