From Lexington Epitaphs (Francis H. Brown, M.D., 1905): Francis, son of James Brown, b. Jan. 22, 1738; m. Mary Buckman 1764; captain of the Minute Men and Militia; at the battle of Lexington; wounded in Lincoln; at Cambridge June 17, 1775; his company was ordered to Charlestown Neck, but too late to engage in the Battle [of Bunker Hill]; elsewhere in Revolutionary War; lived near Pierce's Bridge, where his cellar is still to be seen [1905]; later built house and kept tavern in East village on farm still owned by his descendants.

Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors in the War of the Revolution, 17 Vols.: Brown, Francis, Lexington. Sergeant, Capt. John Parker's co.; service from June 17 to June 18, 1775, 2 days, at Cambridge, by order of Committee of Safety.
