A patient has been charged with manslaughter in the death of a doctor he tackled Thursday at Dallas' largest psychiatric hospital, police said.
Tony Cason, 55, a patient at Timberlawn Mental Health System, is accused of attacking Dr. Ruth Anne MarDock about 1 p.m., according to police documents.
The assault came after Cason was told he would be transferred to another facility.
Police say Cason appeared to be waiting for someone or something in a hallway outside his room when MarDock came around the corner. The confrontation was caught on video.
Cason tackled her, police said, and during the attack, MarDock struck her head on the floor and lost consciousness.
MarDock, 63, was hospitalized for two days and died Saturday from her injuries.
Cason was arrested at the facility, in the 4600 block of Samuell Boulevard in East Dallas, and initially charged with aggravated assault. After MarDock died, he was charged with manslaughter. He is being held in the Dallas County Jail on $100,000 bail.
Timberlawn officials could not be reached for comment.
