Thank goodness there was only 1 Salathiel Newnham/Newnem/Newnam, etc., in the colonies. I found him in Delaware in a few records although I suspect he was born in Maryland. He moved down the Carolina Trace to Rockingham Co., NC around 1783 and left quite a few descendants there. He disappeared off the NC records in 1798 and showed up in Jessamine Co., KY with his son, Elijah. He was on the tax records until 1806. His burial place is unknown but he may have come in with a group of Methodists to Wilmore, KY to help found the Asbury Seminary. He was a son of John Newnham IV (1707-1763) and Catherine Ley from Delaware most likely. He is shown on some records as being married 3 times, Mary UNKNOWN, Elizabeth Kearns, and Eliza Fourakers. Not so with Elizabeth Kearns as he was long dead in 1840. However a Salathiel STONE is shown in the NC records as marrying Elizabeth Kearns in November, 1840 and Salathiel Newnham II is shown as a surety for the marriage bond. I suspect Salathiel Stone is a child of one of Salathiel II's daughters. Also there is a record of an Eliza Foreakers marrying a JOHN Newnham in MD in 1756 which may be a mistake or maybe Salathiel married one of Eliza's sisters. Will require more research. I'd appreciate it if someone with info on this man would contact me. [email protected]
