Town of Cato Chairman Killed Near Valders
Valders - Arnold R. Nelson, 54, chairman of the Town of Cato (Manitowoc County)
became Wisconsin's 162nd traffic victim of the year yesterday. Mr. Nelson, an
electrical contractor who lived on the homestead farm north of here, died at 3
p.m. in Manitowoc Memorial Hospital of injuries sustained at 11 a.m. Tuesday
when his car crashed head on into a culvert on a Town of Liberty road four
miles southeast of Valders.
The victim, who had represented Cato on the Manitowoc County Board the past four
years, was a brother of Terry Nelson, principal of Longfellow Elementary School
in Sheboygan. He was defeated by only eight votes in his bid for re-election in
the April 2 election.

A native of the Town of Cato, he was born August 15, 1905, a son of the late Mr.
and Mrs. Nels T. Nelson. His father had served as town chairman in earlier years.
Mr. Nelson's second marriage was to Mrs. Loretta Bolzenthal Reis at Menomoniee,
Mich. June 2, 1950. He was a member of the Wisconsin Well Drillers Association.
Survivors are his wife, a son, Donald ___, a daughter, ______ (illegible).
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church, of which he was
a member at Gjerpen (east of Valders) with the Rev. Robert A. Onkka, pastor,
officiating. Burial will be in Mishicot Public Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Fancy Funeral Home in Valders from 4 p.m. until 11 a.m.
Saturday and from noon at the church.
