Ethel Louise Bailey, age 86, of Wilmington Township, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2016.

Louise retired in 1990, following 20 years of service, from the Illinois Department of Corrections, the Joliet Youth Center on McDonough Street.

Family and friends knew her as a fierce player of Pinochle, Euchre, Poker, Kings Corners and Scrabble. Louise kept up-to-date with current news events better than most politicians and enjoyed exercising her mind by completing crossword puzzles and Sudoku.

Mostly, she loved spending time with her family and friends at regular cookouts with a Bloody Mary cocktail and a good meal.

Ethel understood and encouraged the importance of working hard. She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her cherished only son, Lawrence (Deborah) Bailey of Joliet; two beloved grandchildren, Sandra (Kevin) MacArthur of Aurora and Jennifer (Tim) McFarland of Joliet; two adored great-grandchildren, Steven McFarland and Amber McFarland; four dearly loved brothers, Donald (Daisy) Landers of Bloomington, Ronald (Janice) Landers of Streator, Harry (Earlene) Landers of Dwight, and Larry (June) Landers of Gardner; and one dearly loved sister, Mary (Leonard) Mahler of Dwight. Also surviving are numerous loved extended family members both near and far.

Ethel was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Howard L. Bailey; her parents, Budd and Coyla (nee Finch) Landers; one sister, Violet Landers; one brother, John (Patricia) Landers; daughter-in-law, Andrea Christy Bailey in 2001; and her companion, Walter Paulsen in 2010.

Visitation: Monday July 11, 2016, 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Tuesday, July 12, 2016, 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road, in Wilmington.

Funeral service: Tuesday, July 12, 2016, 10:00 a.m. at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road, in Wilmington.
