Gabriel Lee "Gabe" Cox
Gabriel "Gabe" Lee Cox

AGE: 18 • New Castle

What a beautiful, vibrant soul. Everything strong and golden in a young lion.

Being the leading technical drafting student in the state of Delaware and 4th in the Nation, Gabriel "Gabe" Lee Cox had an unstoppable future ahead of him. After graduating Hodgson Vo-Tech High School in 2015, he attended the University of New Haven, where he received all A's in his last semester as a major in Architecture and Interior Design. Gabe was most recently awarded for his volunteer work, designing a wheelchair ramp for a disabled Veteran, under the Home Builders Association. He was a natural sportsman and thoroughly enjoyed making people laugh. With an infectious smile and an air of confidence, Gabe made a lasting impression on all who came across his path.

Gabe was a prince and a fighter and we know his early years of misfortune and his later years of success and triumph will fill many with the incredible hope that no matter how far down we may feel, the hill is worth climbing. Long live the beauty and the glory that is Gabe Cox.

Gabe was killed suddenly as a passenger in a car accident on the eve of June 28, 2016 at the age of 18. He was predeceased by his dear father, Randall in 2000, and his beloved mother, Shelly in 2009, both due to motorcycle accidents. Gabe is survived by his brother/guardian Dane, his sister-in-law/guardian Margherita, his big sister Kaylee, his Aunt and Uncle, Dana and Danny Crowe, and his surrogate Aunt and Uncle, Anna and Ken Farren; as well as many more aunts, uncles, and cousins. He also leaves his maternal grandmother, Sandra Crowe of Cumberland, MD and his paternal grandparents, Max and Jean Cox of Grafton, WV. He will be severely missed by his girlfriend, Adrianna Marvel, and his closest friend, Mark Wolf; along with his immense following of friends, teachers, and associates from the University of New Haven and Hodgson Vo-Tech High School.

A celebration of Gabe's life will be held at Mealey Funeral Home at 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, on Tuesday, July 5 at 12 pm, beginning with a viewing at 10 am. A procession to All Saints Cemetery will immediately follow, where Gabe will lay alongside his parents. The family highly encourages all to join the after party.

The family is accepting donations to assist in funeral costs at https://fundly.com/gabe-cox . In lieu of flowers, we ask attendees to donate a hat of any kind to lay at his side. All hats will then be donated to Independent Living Services, a program that assists youth, ages 14 and older, who are in foster care, and youth who have exited care after their 18th birthday but have not reached age 21.
