Vincent Joseph Accardo, “VJ, Pops, Papa Smurf” of Abita Springs, LA, went to live with Jesus while surrounded by his family on June 28, 2016 at the age of 75. Beloved husband of Robbie B. Accardo for 19 years. He was the proud father of Brandie Accardo Bouza and Scott Brandon Accardo (Dana) from the late Nyoka Kempton Accardo. He was loved and known as Pops by his grandkids: Karleen, Presley, Raegyn, Abigail and Brandon. He was also the stepfather of Danielle Schmidt and her children, Brandon, Blake and Bailey; Stacie Eady and her children, Logan and Tanner; Jeremy Arseneaux and his son, Joseph. He was preceded in death by his father, Vincent (Pappy Snappy) Accardo; his mother, Bernadine (Bea) Nelms and his brother, James “Jimmy” Accardo. Sister of Patsy Accardo Joseph (Frankie) of Monroe, LA. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was born on August 29, 1940 in St. Louis, MO, but spent most of his life in Lutcher and Kenner. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1962 as a cryptographer. In his younger years, he was a car salesman at Metairie Ford and Lamarque Ford. He was well-known locally for his 30+ years in the SpeeDee Oil Change & Tune-Up community as owner of multiple locations. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and attending LSU and Saints football games. He was a long-time member of the Indian Bayou Hunting Club and he was a member of the Abita Men’s Club, the Italian American Club and the ROMEO’s. He was also known for his great sense of humor and telling awesome stories.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Memorial Service in his honor this Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 12:00 pm at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive in Metairie, LA. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm. Inurnment will be in the Chapel of Peace Mausoleum in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
