Claire L. Waters
Portsmouth - Claire Lunardon Waters, 89, died March 15, 2013. Born in Sesser, Illinois, she was a first generation American, daughter of the late Frank and Mattia Pesavento Lunardon of Asiago, Italy. Mrs. Waters was a retired claims representative with the Social Security Administration and a World War II WAVE. She was a member of Cradock Presbyterian Church, Victory Chapter #16 O.E.S., Cradock Women's Club, and the Pearl Harbor Survivors Assoc.
Survivors include a daughter, Lynn Waters Carwell and husband Glenn Carwell, M.D. of Virginia Beach; son, John Waters and friend Renee Murphy of Dixon, IL; brother, Frank Lunardon of Dixon; sister-in-law, Olga Mae Wallace of Pinetown, NC; three grandsons, Will Chapman and Boyd Chapman and wife Elizabeth of Washington, DC, and Staff Sgt. David Waters of Dixon; granddaughter-in-law, Heather Chapman of Vero Beach, FL; three great-grandchildren, Morgan and Connor Chapman and Sara Waters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Mar. 19, at 1 PM in Cradock Presbytereian Church by the Rev. Don McLean. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel on Monday from 6-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Hoffler Creek Wildlife Refuge. www.SturtevantFuneralHome.com
