GREENSBORO — Joseph Myrick Allred, Sr., 101, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Friends Homes Guilford.
Visitation will be Friday, June 12, from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Forbis & Dick Guilford Chapel. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 13 in the living room at Friends Homes Guilford.
Joe was born at home in Greensboro on November 19, 1913 and was a life long resident of Greensboro. He was the son of the late David Edgar and Epsie Hendricks Allred.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Jean Morrow Allred, as well as brothers, Edgar and Phillip, and sisters, Sara and Margaret.
He is survived by his sons, David, Joe Jr. and wife Marla, and granddaughter, Erin Allred. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Sylvia Glenn and husband, Chalmers, along with nieces and nephews who loved him very much.
Joe was in the first graduating class at Greensboro Senior High (Grimsley). He worked at Pegram West, Inc. from 1950 until he retired as president in 1986.
He will be remembered for living his life guided by his strong faith and Quaker principles.
He was instrumental in the development of Friends Home, Inc. and was a board member for many years. He was a generous man who never wanted credit for his many acts of kindness.
His family wishes to extend gratitude for the love and exceptional care provided by the staff and caregivers at Friends Homes Guilford.
