Mahala Jane Foy was born in Cattaraugus Co. N.Y. in 1825 and married her first husband, Elliott C. Bradley in 1842 in Illinois. The family lived in that state for many years. Mahaha was the mother of five sons: Julius C. b. 1845, William E. b. 1846, Francis Herbert b. 1848, Carlos Dwight b. 1850, and Abraham L. b. 1860/61. In 1860, the marriage began to fail and the parents divorced. Elliot soon married again and lived for many years in Wapello Co., Iowa with his second wife and their many children.
Mahala also moved to Iowa as did most of her sons. She lived with he young son Abraham in Marion Co. Iowa, and in Mills Co. At age 45, on 18 Sept.. 1875, Mahol(sic ) J. Bradley and William P. Clark, a millwright aged 64, married in Malvern, Mills Co. In the 1880 Mills Co., census, they were still living in Malvern. They later moved to nearby Macedonia, Pottawattamie Co. where three of her sons, Julius C., William E., and Carlos D. lived. There they lived on the same lot and block as Mahala's son Carlos Dwight and his family.
