Olin Dell McKinley

CADILLAC— Olin Dell McKinley, lifelong resident of Cadillac, went to be with his Lord and Savior, on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at Autumnwood of McBain. He was 80.

Dell, as most would know him, was born on September 13, 1935, in Cadillac, Michigan, to Olin and Opal (Powell) McKinley. He was born into a very large family of 10 siblings.

Dell proudly served his country as a specialist with the United States Army during the Korean War.

After the tragic loss of his first wife, Mary Ann (Mejerle) (1936–1967), Dell met the former Nancy Powell, and after a long courtship the two entered into marriage. Nancy and Dell celebrated 33 years of marriage together this past February.

He was an extreme talent when it came to refinishing furniture and had made a living as a commercial painter for many years. Eventually, Dell went to work and retired from VanDrie's Furniture in Cadillac. Dell was a true outdoorsman who admired nature. He enjoyed fishing many of the area's rivers and lakes or venturing to Frankfort for bigger water. He spent many years hunting with family and friends and knew the lay of the land with the best hunting spots all around Cadillac. Dell could often be found simply walking in the woods or setting out on a new trail. Dell was also an avid sports fan. He played on the Cadillac Comets Men's Hockey Team as a high schooler. He also participated in baseball, fast-pitch softball, and other sports. He loved watching all sports with his wife, Nancy. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Dell is survived by a loving family - his wife, Nancy McKinley of Cadillac: children, James "Jim" (Celena Mulder) McKinley of Big Rapids, Julie (David) Lorencen of Laingsburg, Tammy (Jeff) Johns of Alaska, Debby (Todd) Palmer of Georgia, and Melissa (Paul) Davis of Manton; grandchildren: Josh Palmer, Cassandra Hensley, Timothy Johns, Lisa Johns, Elizabeth Lorencen, Jared McKinley, and Danielle Hodgson; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill and Dean McKinley; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many other loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife; his parents; siblings: Paul, Walter, Ormel, Merlin, Blanche, Lyle, Bernice and Barb.

Private family services will be held and interment will take place at Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Temple Hill Baptist Church Youth Program or Munson Hospice.

Condolences and memories may be shared with the family online at www.Hitesman-Holdship.com.
