Lillie was the daughter of the late David and Carrie (Billheimer) Berkey. She married Walter Buss on May 2, 1948.

She was a 1944 graduate of sterling High School. She was an active and devoted member of Sterling United Methodist Church, where she helped as a custodian for over twenty years, sang in the choir, and served in the Ruth Circle. She enjoyed working on the Election Board every year, and helping assemble the Robinson Directory. She also worked at Morton Salt, was a clerk at Maibach's furniture, Sterling, and was a school bus driver for fourteen years in the Norwaye School district. She was a previous Worthy Matron of the Rittman OES, and enjoyed quilting, baking pies, playing euchre, making her famous family favorite dressing for Thanksgiving, and most of all spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son David; infant daughter, Bonita Irene "Bonnie"; sister, Evelyn Schar; brothers, Woodrow, Andrew, Clark, and Carl Berkey.

Her memory is cherished by her husband, Walter; sons, Dennis (Lynda) Buss, and Duane Buss; daughters, Fran (David) Gengo and Charlene (John) Stanford; grandsons, David (Amy) and Michael Gengo, Matthew (Tessa) Mark (Jennifer), and Kyle Stanford, and John (Lauren) and Eric Buss; great grandchildren, Mia,Dominic, Evelina, Ivan, and Josephine; several nieces and nephews.

Lillie was especially grateful for all the friends and family who sent her over 100 birthday cards for her 90th birthday.


Lillie's family would like to thank the Wayne County Care Center, as well as Dr. Lance and the staff at LifeCare Hospice, for their exceptional care of her and her family.
