KEARNEY — Roberta Y. Martin, 83, of Beaver City died Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Faith Community Church in Beaver City with the Rev. Ron Scheimo officiating. Burial will be at Deaver Cemetery near Stamford. Wenburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
She was born to Fred M. and Nellie N. (Saltzman) Marble on Feb. 3, 1933, in Precept.
Roberta grew up in the Precept area and attended school at Beaver City High School. She married Richard Martin on July 17, 1950, at the Christian Church in Beaver City. To this union five children were born, Fred, Leslie, Louella, Fabian and Nancy.
She attended nursing school in Denver before moving to Oregon in 1963. They moved to Norton, Kan., in 1995. She worked as a nurse for 32 years. In November 2010, she moved to Beaver City Manor because of health reasons.
Quilting was one of her hobbies. She made more than 100 quilts and gave each grandchild one after his or her 3rd birthday. She also made many of her kids’ clothes and made many Christmas ornaments for her family through the years.
She attended Crossroads Church in Norton, Topps Club in Norton, SPPA of Almena, Kan., and American Legion Auxiliary of Beaver City and was a past member of Full Gospel Church in Newberg, Ore.
Roberta was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Raymond, Royce, Fred Jr. and Ronald Marble; sister, Rouene Mayo; son, Leslie Leon Martin; and grandson, Michael Wray.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Martin of Beaver City; son, Fred and wife Rachel Martin of McMinnville, Ore.; daughters, Louella and husband Sam McDaniel of San Ysidro, N.M., Fabian and husband Ron Baker of Klamath Falls, Ore., and Nancy and husband Ed Meyers of Plainville, Kan.; sisters, Delores White of Lexington and Vernita Bottger of Tekamah; 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
