Mary Louise Booker Dotson was born June 28, 1949, to the late Katie Lancaster Phelps and Leo Booker, Sr. She slipped into eternal rest on June 27, 2016, one hour before her birthday. She was surrounded by family that prayed and sing “Happy Birthday” to her as she drifted off to sleep. She had been a resident at Singing River Rehab for the past Fourteen Years.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Katie L. Phelps, stepfather, Inez Phelps, Father, Leo Booker, Sr.; Stepmother, Vallie Mae DeFlanders Booker, ; brothers, Samuel J. McSwain, Leo Booker, Jr., and Allen Booker; Sister, Theresa Booker, and Grandmother, Willie P. Lancaster.

Mary Louise joined St. Paul UMC at an early age and participated in the choir. She loved to sing and participated in school and community functions often imitating Mary Wells and Dianna Ross. She attended Magnolia High School and furthered her education in Job Corps where she became a certified CNA and worked at SRH for a short period of time.

Her precious memories will be cherished by her brother, William (Pop) Booker of Orlando, Florida; three sisters-in-law, Mable McSwain of Moss Point, Ms. , Kathy H. Booker of Orlando, Florida, and Annie L. Booker of Moss Point, Ms. She had seven nieces, three nephews, fifteen great nieces and great nephews, and one great, great niece, aunts, uncles, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mary Louise was a joyful person. Where there was fun, she was in it. Where there was no fun, she created fun. She loved her family and her nieces and nephews as if they were her own, often instilling in them the value of education.
