Mrs.Edna Faye Davis,22,and her son,Charles Mitchell Davis,4,were fatally injured,Wednesday,May 17,1972,as the left front pusher wheel rolled off of a dump truck and struck them as they were walking along the side of Hwy.110 about three and one-half miles east of Heber Springs.
According to Cpl.John Murphy of the Arkansas State Police, the truck, driven by William Boyd of Rose Bud,was traveling east on the highway and the complete wheel assembly rolled off the truck as he topped a rise in the highway.
Mrs.Marilyn Clayton,(Mrs.Davis' sister),Mrs.Davis, and Charles were walking along the left side of the highway also going east. Murphy said that Mrs.Clayton was next to the ditch,Mrs.Davis along side her next to the highway and Charles in front of his mother.
Murphy reported that the wheel rolled at an angle across the left lane and struck Mrs.Davis and her son. The wheel continues another 50 feet before jumping a fence and rolled another 125 feet before it came to rest against a tree in a pasture.
Mrs.Clayton was not injured.
