We don't know who Isham Dalton's parents were but the evidence indicates Isham's father was NOT Captain David Dalton (born 1740), Richard Dalton (born about 1752), William Dalton the son of Samuel Dalton and Anne Dandridge Redd, or David Dalton husband of Susannah Davis. Discussion of the evidence is available at http://dolton.org/ishams_father.htm or http://mv.ancestry.com/viewer/0a69b859-0cb7-42da-b374-e3f7d0793b58/4722485/-1558071686?_phsrc=ZyO1290&usePUBJs=true or http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Dalton-2627.
Isham and Elizabeth had fourteen children. They were Mary C (Polly) Dalton (1794-1851), Francis Hart Dalton (1795-1863), Lucy Isabelle Dalton (1795-1871), David W Dalton (1797-1819), Cloyd Dalton (born 1798), Sally Dalton (1800-1823), Elizabeth Hart Dalton (1803-1892), Catherine Dalton (1803-1880), Nancy Lunica Dalton (1809-1876), William Dalton (1811-1864), Christina Dalton (born 1815), Cyrena Dalton (1815-1880), Richmond Dolton (1815-1899), and Elijah Dalton (1817-1885). Since their birth years are given as the same year Catherine and Elizabeth may have been twins and Christina and Cyrena may have been twins. There is a six year gap between the birth of the Elizabeth and the birth of Nancy. There was also a change of location. All the children born before Nancy were born in Virginia. After the birth of Elizabeth all the children are born in Madison County, Kentucky.
About twelve years after moving to Madison County Isham died. The last time Isham appears on the tax lists in Madison County, Kentucky, was in 1821. So it is not surprising to find an 1822 deed, filed in Madison County, listing his heirs. Isham died in 1821 or 1822 at the age of about fifty-five and left a large family bereft of his support. We don't know whether he died of disease or injury, but no other deaths are recorded at this time so it appears to only have affected him.
