Alfred served in WWII in the European Sector as a glider pilot, and in the Korean War as a US Air Force Flyer. He made the US Air Force his career, serving as a Major at the time of his death while on a routine flight from Stewart Field, West Point, NY to Maine. There was a mechanical failure and though the landing on the Hudson River was successful, he and his co-pilot drowned.
