Jessie Mae Mitchell passed away Monday, June 27th, at the age of 97.Jessie Mae was born on August 22, 1918 to Lloyd Cornelius and Annie Marie Windt Aldis in Houston TX. She graduated John H. Reagan High School in 1936. She learned how to work a comptometer and got her first job with A&P Tea Company. She married Charles H. Mitchell on September 2, 1949. In 1955 she was hired as an Executive Secretary for Borden’s Creamery in the Dairy and Services Division. She retired in 1976.
They moved to Fredericksburg in 1979 and became members of Zion Lutheran Church, she served as President of the Women ELCA as well as on the Altar guild. Music was always part of her life and she loved being in the choir, and music director for VBS as well as many other church groups.
Jessie is survived by her children: Barbara Ashley & husband Craig of CA, Wallace Mitchell & wife Linda Of Houston, Alvia Ann Willman Cedar Park, 12 grandchildren, numerous great- & great-great-grandchildren, & a brother, Charles Ray Hirschfield.
Funeral services for Jessie Mitchell will be Saturday, July 2nd, 10 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, with Rev. Mike Ensrude officiating. Graveside service & interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation for Jessie will be Friday, July 1st, 5-7 PM in Fredericksburg Funeral Home, & Saturday, July 2nd, 9-10 AM in Zion Lutheran Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or the charity of one’s choice.
