Herbert Winston French, 87, of Harrisonburg, Virginia, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2016.
He was born August 26, 1928 in Rockingham County, and was the son of the late Alburton “A.B.” French and Arlene Mitts French.
On May 16, 1953 he married Charlotte Alexander French who survives.
Herbert served in the Army, and was stationed in Italy just after WWII. In 1948, after his service he founded French’s Frame and Wheel Alignment. He continued running the family business and retiring from then French’s Auto Parts Inc in the early 90’s. He was a member of Sunrise Church of the Brethren in Harrisonburg and was an avid sportsman and golfer. He served on the community board of directors for SunTrust Bank and Shenvalee board in New Market. Herbert was a Mason in the Mt. Jackson No. 103 AF&AM Masonic Lodge in Mount Jackson and was also a Shriner.
In addition to his wife surviving family include sons, Scott Winston French and wife, Jenny, Kirk Lee French and wife, Karen, and Kelly Joe French and wife, Jennifer; daughter, Dawn French Jones and husband, Dan; grandchildren, Brittany and Kendall Jones, and Arthur, Alexander and Matthew French; and a brother, Nelson Page French and wife, Dot.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm, Saturday, July 9, 2016, at Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Harrisonburg with the Pastors J.D. Glick and Richard Wehrle officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service.
