OBITUARY
NOLA OLIVIA KING
Nola Olivia King, age 92, of Union and formerly of La Grande, died June 21, 2016 at her home. A viewing will be held on Wednesday June 29, 2016 from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 7th Street in La Grande. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Island City Cemetery. Nola was born on December 27, 1923, the daughter of Willie and Charlottie (Welch) Mitchell in Eucha, Oklahoma. She graduated from high school there and worked in the food service industry most of her life. She was married to Claude Kirby and they lived in Pendleton until his death in 1968 when Nola moved to La Grande. In 1974 she married Elvin King. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and a Good Sam Club, enjoying many trips to Canada. She loved to fish, camp and hunt for mushrooms. When she was 90 her grandson took her hunting for the first time. She enjoyed canning and was a very good cook. She also enjoyed tending to her flowers and grew many varieties of Peonies. She was a talented quilter and kept quilting after she lost her sight. Survivors include her children, Claudean and David Sharp of Union, Joyce Dudley and Burt Dilley of Portland and Doyle and Bobbie Kirby of Oklahoma City; step-children, Joann King of Roseburg, Montee and Linda King of Roseburg and Terry 'Butch' and Diane King of Springfield; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1998, a step-son, Gary King, three sisters and three brothers.
