Lynne Robertshaw Nelson, 66, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2016 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, surrounded by family and friends. Born June 26, 1949 in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Daniel and Norma James Robertshaw of Wilmington. Lynne graduated from New Hanover High School and attended East Carolina University.

Lynne will best be remembered for her beautiful smile, infectious laugh and abundance of selflessness to her family, friends and a house full of pets. She spent countless hours in her garden, and always enjoyed home improvement and decorating projects. She spent many years working as a Tax and Real Estate Appraiser, and served on the Board of Directors for her brothers' non-profit Animal Rescue in South Carolina, and had a deep compassion for all of God's creatures … great and small. She devoted her life to her children, granddaughters, family, friends and home. She enjoyed entertaining, feeding a crowd, and relished in the joy of gift-giving.

Visitation with family will be Tuesday, June 28, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Coble Ward-Smith, 3915 Oleander Drive in Wilmington. A Celebration of Lynne's Life will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Coble Ward-Smith. Interment will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens.

In addition to her parents, Lynne was preceded in death by her husband, James Lambuth Nelson, and sisters, Elizabeth Kitts McQueen and Norma Cheryl Roberts, all of Wilmington.

Surviving are son, John David Thomas, Jr., wife J.K., and granddaughter Cooper Gwen; daughter, Jennifer Lynne Matthews, husband Jason, and granddaughter, Brileigh Haze, of Wilmington; brothers, Daniel James Robertshaw and Ronald Michael Danta of Camden, South Carolina; niece, Elizabeth Christy Edens of New Market, Maryland; and nephew, William Nelson Jones (Rosie Losano) of Wilmington.

The family would like to give special thanks to the caring doctors and nurses at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, and to friends of the family for their support and displays of love during this time.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Lynne may be made to the organization most near and dear to her heart: Danny and Ron's Rescue, P.O. Box 604, Camden, South Carolina 29021; dannyandronsrescue.org
