James Herbert Almond

James Herbert Almond, 85, of Lynchburg, went to meet his Lord and Savior, Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. Born August 10, 1929 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late William H. Almond, Sr. and the late Carrie Brooks Almond and was also preceded in death by a brother, William "Hounddog" Almond, Jr.; a sister, Earlene Copper; and a sister-in-law, Catherine Almond.

Mr. Almond worked countless years at Meade Corp. and later retired from Rock-Tenn Corp. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a loyal member of Fairview Christian Church all his life, as well as a member of the Christian Mens Fellowship.

Mr. Almond leaves behind his loving wife of sixty-three, Delores Almond; three children, Michael Almond, Vickie Goodman, and Brad Almond (Stacie); five grandchildren, Travis Goodman (Krista), Ryan Schneider (Jon), Kelsey Almond, Courtney Almond, and Michael S. Almond; his great grandchildren, Zachary, Julianna, Matthew, and Ava and two more to be born in 2015. He is also survived by his brother, Fred Almond; sister, Catherine St. John (Bobby); a special aunt, Madeline Tyree; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Mr. Almond's life will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at the Fairview Christian Church Chapel with Minister Jean Reynolds officiating. A reception will follow the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Food Closet at Fairview Christian Church or to Hospice.
