John L. Lock, 86, of Vevay, died Saturday, June 25, 2016, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 1, 1929, in Switzerland County, to Walter S. and Ethel Covington Lock. He was raised and attended school in Switzerland County. He was in the Army from Oct. 28, 1952 to Sept. 29, 1954, serving during the Korean War. He was employed with Dow Corning in Carrollton, Ky., retiring in 2004 after 10 years of service. He was also employed for Slawson’s Implements in Vevay for 11 years and for Phillips 66 in Vevay for nine years. He was a member of the Vevay Post 185 of the American Legion and Vevay Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5396. He was a lifelong resident of Switzerland County. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Nina Peak Lock, whom he married July 12, 1986; one son, John Dale Lock of Lafayette; one step daughter, Sherry Ann Wainscott of Vevay; five step sons, Gene Ray Scudder of Florence, Harlan Dale Scudder and Randy Paul Scudder, both of Vevay, Monte Scudder of Florence, and Shaine Chatham of Vevay; two grandchildren; and many step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Leonard Lock; one sister, Naomi “Nan” Lorch; and his former wife, Hilda Jewell, whom he married Jan. 3, 1948, and who died in 1983.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay. Burial will be in Vevay Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted graveside by Vevay Post 195 of the American Legion and Vevay Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5396.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 5 to 8 p.m.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice of King’s Daughters’ Health. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.
