Charlene Ushe Nelson, 81, of Burnet, Texas, passed away Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018. Charlene was born on March 12, 1936, in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Known by loved ones as “Weenie,” Charlene devoted her life caring for those around her. In high school, Charlene met her soulmate Don Nelson and they married on Aug. 12, 1954.

Charlene worked as a bookkeeper for her husband’s plumbing business throughout the 1960s. From 1976-1977 she worked as an assistant librarian at Westlake High School.

Charlene loved her family fiercely, enjoyed entertaining friends, traveling the United States with Don in their RV, and watching cardinals from the front porch of her house on Lake Buchanan.

Charlene is survived by sons Randy and wife Ginger, Rick and wife Jackie, and Ronny; cousin Charlie (Hardtack) Blunt and wife Terry; and sister-in-law Joan Blackmon. She also leaves behind grandchildren Tiffany David and husband Chris, Sam Nelson, Jonathan Barr and wife Jessica, Colleen Nelson and Hillary Barr as well as four great grandchildren and dog Gigi.

Her laugh and nurturing spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

A visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 19, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Jenkins Funeral Home, 109 N. Main Street, Burnet.

A celebration of life will take place at her lake house on Saturday, Jan. 20, at noon, at 412 Beaver Creek Circle Dr., Burnet.
