Jo Roberson Parker, 73, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 23, 2016 at Ridgewood Manor in Washington, NC.

Jo was born August 24,1942 in Washington, NC and graduated from Washington High School. She attended Woman's College of the University of NC Greensboro and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, NC with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology with credits for a minor in music. Jo had an extensive career in social work, most prominently for the State Department of Social Services in Raleigh, NC as a program consultant for the Interstate/Intercountry Services to Children. She also worked in the Protective Services and Foster Care Unit for the Wake County Department of Social Service, Raleigh, NC.

Jo was a gifted musician who enjoyed sharing her musical talents by playing piano and organ during her professional career at various churches including Old Ford Church of Christ. She also enjoyed playing dinner music at several restaurants and felt especially honored to play at the Capital City Club in Raleigh, NC.

Jo is survived by her sister, Ann Roberson Keel of Fredericksburg, VA; three nieces, Karen Geddie of Tupelo, MS, Karla Everett of Ortonville, MI, and Ann Claire Mattern of Beavertown, PA; one nephew, Larry Craig Roberson, Jr. of Advance, NC, and their nine children.

Jo was preceded in death by her mother, Mamie Rawls Roberson, her father, Clarence Carl Roberson, her sister, Jo Ann Roberson and her brother, Larry Craig Roberson.

A graveside service will be held Sunday, June 26, 2016 at 3 p.m. at Oakdale Cemetery. Visitation will follow at the graveside.

Jo was often referred to as a "Sweet Lady" and she was loved by many. Anyone who knew Jo knew how much she loved her sweet "puppies," CiCi and CoCo.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Beaufort County, PO Box 8, Washington, NC 27889; Old Ford Church of Christ, 6040 US-17, Washington, NC 27889; or the charity of your choice.
