Randy Lee Freeman, 59, of Silver Lake, passed away Friday, June 24, 2016, at the House at Midland Care, surrounded by his family.

Randy was born on July 3, 1956, in Topeka, the son of Robert and Betty Harper Freeman. He was educated in Topeka schools, where he graduated from Topeka High School in 1974. He graduated from Sterling College in Sterling KS and received his Ph.D. from Kansas State University. Randy and Patricia Marie Hayden were united in marriage in 1982 at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

Randy was superintendent for numerous schools, finishing out his career as superintendent and grade school principal for USD 482 in Dighton KS. Randy loved helping his students reach their full potential. Randy was a volunteer EMT, serving his community, in every town that he lived in. He was a member of the Kansas National Education Association, Knights of Columbus and Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church.

Randy loved sports and could always be found in the stands at any sporting event that was going on. Above all else, Randy loved his family. He was always there to support and encourage his children and never missed one of their games. Randy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was dearly loved and will be sorely missed.

Grateful to have shared his life are his wife, Tricia, of the home; children, Shamus Freeman (Emily), North Liberty IA and Mackenzie Freeman, Brooklyn NY; his grandson, Jackson Freeman, who was his pride and joy; brother, Bobby Freeman (Jeannene), Topeka; sister, Mary Clearwater, Topeka, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Linda Allen.

A parish rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614, where family will greet friends following until 8 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Mother Teresa of Calcutta Church Building Fund or to the Freeman Grandchildren Educational Fund, sent in care of the funeral home
