Melvin Eugene Henderson, 82, of Willow Springs, Missouri, departed this life on March 3, 2016, at NHC HealthCare, West Plains, Missouri. He was born August 25, 1933, in Flora, Illinois, the son of James Everett Henderson and Helen Henrietta (Hoard) Henderson.
Melvin was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Bowen on December 18, 1954, in Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Helen Henderson; three brothers, James Everett Jr., Robert Henderson, and Francis Henderson; and one sister, Sandra Lowtrip.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley; four children, Debbie Henderson of Willow Springs, Missouri, David Henderson and wife Judi of Willow Springs, Missouri, Donna Clifton and husband J.T. of Columbia, Missouri, and Dixie Henderson of Alabama; sixteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. He is further survived by six sisters, Dana McCormick of Willow Springs, Missouri, and Naomi Stine, Betty Strange, Patsy Blaney, Donna Tetters, and Eula Mae Berry, all of Illinois; and two brothers, Dale Henderson of San Angelo, Texas, and Kenny Ray Henderson of Alton, Missouri, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Melvin was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the Westside Family Life Church in Willow Springs, where he enjoyed attending services. He was employed at Burlington Northern railroad for 27 years, retiring in 1993.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing, woodworking and gardening, and in his younger years he loved riding horses. He deeply loved the family gatherings during the holidays.
