Obituary - Mrs. H. R. Anderson
Sarah Elizabeth Anderson, whose death we mourn today, was born near Muncie, Delaware County, Indiana, on January the 8th, 1852. She passed from this life on Thursday at 5:45 a.m. December 8, 1927. She was 75 year and 11 months old.
She came to Henry county, Iowa, with her parents, Elizabeth Jane and Arion Abbott, in 1855. They later moved to Washington county, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood. She was married to Henry R. Anderson in 1869, who died in Tinley, Iowa, May 8, 1887. They came to Tingley 42 years ago.
Eight children were born to this union, three girls and five boys. Three boys died in infancy and Grace left this life on December 27, 1915. The girls living are Mrs. Cora Anderson, of Anderson, Mo.; and Mrs. Stella Cooper Benson, of Des Moines, Iowa. The boys living are L. B. Anderson, of Kirkman, Iowa, and O. A. Anderson, of Arion, Iowa. One sister, Mrs. M.J. Hillhouse, of Washington, Iowa, and two brothers, James Abbott, of Stapleton, Neb., and John Abbott, of Boone, Iowa, live to mourn her loss. She leaves thirteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Anderson practically raised her family alone. She led a quiet, Christian life and was always ready when duty called. In sickness and in death she was always on hand with a loving and willing hand to do all she could to relieve the sick and sympathize with the bereaved.
She left Tingley two years ago last month to make her home with her daughter, Cora Anderson, at Anderson, Mo. She suffered a stroke while with her daughter, Mrs. Benson, in Des Moines, about one year ago, and has been failing rapidly ever since. Having been bedfast but about two months, she has gone home to her Lord.
Now when our mother, with all her burden of love, her angelic influence, her saintly care, ceased her beauteous life, how much we lose of home, of happiness, of heaven, no one can tell; for our mother was none but ours, and we only can know how holy she was, how sacred her memory will ever be.
But now we must borrow consolation from the thought that our loss is heaven's gain; that surely her angel spirit watches over us, erasing with grateful tears the records of our sins, and making easy our path to her and heaven, with memory of her blessed prayers. Mother's love is the purest and best of any love born on earth and is undying as eternity's years. Other loves may die, but mother's love never will. Dear mother from thy home above still come and bless me with thy love.
Relatives from a distance were Mrs. Stella Cooper Benson and husband, of Des Moines, Iowa; L.B. Anderson, of Kirman, Iowa; O.A. Anderson, of Arion, Iowa; Holland Anderson (Cora's husband), Carry V. Anderson, of Anderson, Mo. (Cora's son) and Mrs. R. Winfrey of Ames, Iowa (Stella Cooper Benson's daughter.)
