Elizabeth A. Schwartz, 97, of Reading, died June 24, 2016, in St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Her husband, William G. Schwartz, died February, 1989.
Born in Camden, NJ, Elizabeth was the daughter of the late John and Ellen (Rourke) Kennedy.
She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church in Exeter Township.
Elizabeth is survived by six children: William J., husband of Chole Schwartz, Perryman, Maryland; Ellen, wife of David McDyer, Aston, PA; Joseph Schwartz, Pennside; Marie, widow of Robert Fetterhoff and Theresa, widow of Daniel Reed, both of Essex Junction, VT; and Paul, husband of Lynn Schwartz, Menomonie, WI: also her sister, Mary Bell, Ardsley, PA, and numerous nieces and nephews. There are eighteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her son, Vincent Schwartz and three brothers, Leo Kennedy, Paul Kennedy and John Kennedy.
She was a loving mother and grandmother, and a devoted wife to her late husband. A devout Catholic she prayed the rosary daily and had a special devotion to Padre Pio. She extended her compassion to all she encountered. She was an Irish storyteller with a good sense of humor.
Her years of work began during the Depression with making malted milkshakes at the local drugstore, she also sewed sheets as part of the WPA. After graduating from Camden Catholic High School, she worked in various office jobs. She was proudest of her time with J. B. Lippincott Publishing Co., Philadelphia, where among other things she did some editing and traveled up and down the East Coast and as far as Chicago, Ill., to help market books at various book sales. She also attended night classes at University of Pennsylvania.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at 10 a.m. in St. Catherine of Siena RC Church, 4975 Boyertown Pike, Exeter Township with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 626 Bally Road, Yeadon, PA. Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church.
