The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, with Rev. Virgil Hager, pastor of the Sandy Creek Baptist Church, officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Pulaski Cemetery.
Calling hours will be one hour before the funeral at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Oswego County Cancer Society.
Surviving are his wife, Beverly; a son, Charles B., Pulaski; two daughters, Mary C. Yerdon and Valerie A. Balcom, both of Pulaski; three grandchildren; his mother, Ruth B. Balcom, Pulaski; a brother, David L., Pulaski, and a sister, Virginia M. Foster, Pulaski.
Born in Pulaski on Feb. 10, 1924, a son of Rolon Sr. and Ruth Saunders Balcom, he was graduated from Pulaski Academy High School in 1942.
He married Beverly McKean in 1947.
Mr. Balcom served in the Army in the Pacific-Asiatic Theater from 1943 until 1946, and then worked as a self-employed roofer. He was later employed as a carpenter by Local 747 of Oswego for 25 years, retiring in 1986.
He was a member of the Pulaski Baptist Church, Robert Edwards Post 358 American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7289, Pulaski Lodge 315 F&AM and Lodge 648 of the International Order of Odd Fellows.
