Charles Frederick Weber, Sr., 83, retired Lafayette businessman, died of a heart attack in St. Elizabeth Hospital at 11 a.m. Saturday. A resident of Coral Gables, Fla., he was stricken and admitted to the hospital a week ago after coming to Lafayette on a visit a week earlier.
Founder of the Lafayette Rug Shop, former Main street business establishment, he retired in 1933 and shortly afterward went to Coral Gables to live. He founded the business in 1908 and operated it until his retirement. The business location has been moved and the firm now is headed by Mr. Weber's son, Charles F Weber, Jr.
Mr. Weber was born in Lafayette and was married to Harriett M. Cunningham in 1900. His wife died in 1957. He was a member of Immanual United Church of Christ, Masonic Lodge 123 and Odd Fellows Merger Lodge 5 of Lafayette. He was a past noble grand and secretary of the Odd Fellows. He also was a charter member of the Elks at Coral Gables.
Surviving with the son is a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Ogborn of Springfield, Mo.

Elks lodge services there 7:30 pm Monday and IOOF lodge services at 8 pm Funeral services there 10:30 am Tuesday. Rev. Earl Heimburger officiating: Interment Spring Hill Cemetery. Five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive.
