Lydia Minerva Bowen Thompson was born March 8, 1870 in Michigan and died Oct. 12, 1962 at Sioux City after a long illness.

She came to Smithland when a small child with her parents and had made her home in and around Smithland most of her life.

She married Will Thompson March 20, 1893 at Ida Grove. Mr. Thompson died Aug. 28, 1954 in Smithland. She was a member of the Oto Rebekah lodge and of the Evergreen Chapter of OES in Smithland.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Walter Gapen of Springfield, Ore., five granddaughters, 16 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Minda Timmerman of Oto.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist church with Rev Tritle officiating.

Pallbearers were Ellis Oregon, John Bowman, Ralph Steinhoff, Paul Maynard, Lew Galup and Cal Servis.

Burial was in Smithland cemetery.
