James T. Breslin
On June 20, 2016, Jim Breslin, after 81 years, following a brief illness, passed from this life with his family at his bedside. His Catholic faith sustained both he and his family throughout this time. We have lost an honest, loyal, modest, funny, wise, and gentle man who gave his all to everything he did. Jim is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 50 years, his three children, sons-in-law, and daughter-in-law and six grandchildren (). Jim was the son of Tom and Catherine Breslin and the brother of Mary Kiner and Jack Breslin. He is also survived by numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews. Jim was born, raised, educated, worked, and passed away in the city he loved, San Francisco. He was a graduate of Most Holy Redeemer School (Class of 1948), Saint Ignatius High School (Class of 1952), and the University of San Francisco (Class of 1956). He particularly enjoyed his years at USF, where he was a Foghorn school newspaper assistant editor, ROTC member, and avid sports fan during its two NCAA men's basketball championships. Following his USF graduation, he served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army and then went to work for the City and County of San Francisco, retiring from there after 30+ years, as the Assistant Director of Purchasing. He was both dedicated and respected in his work. A lover of all sports, he was a season ticket holder and huge fan of both the Giants and the 49ers, though he never forgave the 49ers for their recent departure from The City to The South Bay. His retirement, over the last 25+ years, was always active, between his aiding his father, assisting his wife in her real estate career, working on their Russian River house (especially, Jim's TIKI ROOM), and just enjoying his family and life. He maintained close, lifelong friendships with men from Most Holy Redeemer, SI, SH, USF, and his prior work life, but he was always ready to make a new one! Jim's family appreciated the nurses, nursing assistants, and doctors who worked to make him comfortable at the end of his life.
Family and friends are invited to a vigil service on June 30, 2016, at Sullivan's Funeral Home, 2254 Market Street, San Francisco, and a funeral mass on July 1, 2016, at St. Cecilia's Church, 2555 17th Avenue, San Francisco, followed by burial at Holy Cross Cemetery.
