Charles William Newton Back, 97, of Buena Vista died Thursday, June 23, 2016 at the Golden Living Center. Born October 13, 1918 in Augusta County a son of the late William McKinley Back and Cordia Miller Back.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Galen and Stanley Back, one sister, Edith Bird, and two grandchildren, Charles and Joshua Back.
Mr. Back served his country during WWII in the United States Army, and was a member of the Concord Church of the Brethren in Fairfield.
Surviving are his wife of fifty four years, Mary Morris Back of Buena Vista; six children, Newton Anthony Back; Philip Stuart Back both of Fairfield; Linda Propst of Bridgewater; Virginia McNeely of West Virginia; Carol Howdyshell of Monterey; David Back of Texas; two sisters, Sylvia Lynn of Waynesboro; Inez Moneymaker of Staunton; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild.
A funeral service will be conducted 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Harrison Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Stanley Ogden officiating. Burial will follow at Concord Church of the Brethren Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in loving memory of Charles to the Concord Church of the Brethren.
