Dwight Nelson Martin, 82, of Laurens and husband of 60 years to Martha Cooley Martin, passed away Friday, June 24, 2016, at National Health Care in Laurens.
Born in Erlanger, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Walter Lee and Edna Bozard Martin. He was a Laurens High School graduate. A U.S. Navy Veteran, he served aboard the USS Gurke during the Korean Conflict. Retired from Laurens Glass after 40 years, Mr. Martin was the owner of Dwight Martin Upholstery. He was an active member of St. James United Methodist Church and was a former Worshipful Master of the Schroder Masonic Lodge #144 in Gray Court. He was a member of the Laurens Exchange Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by: his children, Kaye Akin and husband Robert of Greenville, and Wayne Martin and wife Trish of Fountain Inn; grandchildren, Lindley Mahon, Brandon Mahon, Lianna Mahon, Nathan Mahon, Taylor Schulte, Hannah Schulte, and Hailey Schulte; and great grandchild, Rylan Mahon Ramirez.
He was predeceased by: brothers, Howard and Gene Martin; and a sister, Martha Pearson.
Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 pm, Sunday, June 20, 2016, at St. James United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Tommy Bailey. A private burial will be held in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
The family will be at the home and will receive friends in the St. James Family Life Center, immediately following the service.
