HARRIS Olton Hoyt Harris, 84, of Norman, died September 14, 2004, at the Norman Veterans Center in Norman. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, September 17, 2004, in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located at Highway 9 and Imhoff Rd in Norman, with George Harris officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma. Olton Hoyt Harris was born July 31, 1920, in Frazier, Arkansas. O. H. Harris was a retired educator having taught in many rural Oklahoma and Texas schools. He was proud of the many young people that he was associated with during his forty plus years of coaching and teaching and could always remember their names and a personal story about each of them. He left a legacy of positive influence on a multitude of his students. O. H. was already a member of the United States Army Air Corp at the outbreak of WWII and served his country with distinction with the Jolly Rogers of the 90th Bomb Group, 320th Squadron of the Fifth Air Force in the South Pacific. He served as a crew chief on Bombers and was honorable discharged with the rank of staff sergeant. O. H. was married for 58 years to Frankie Jeanne (Woods) Harris who preceded him in death in 2000. He is survived by his five sons, Olton Hoyt, Jr. of Grand Prairie, Texas, George William of Arlington, Texas, Joe Paul of Blackwell, Richard Buckley of Edmond, and Zachary Lee of Purcell, eighteen grandchildren, and fifteen great grandchildren.
