Francis Darnell Landes

February 20, 1940 - June 20, 2016

Francis Darnell Landes, at the age of 76, in Cedar City, Utah, returned home to the loving arms of Our Heavenly Father. Darnell, or "Dinah" as she was known to her family, was a loving, generous, hard-working woman, and a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She quit school after the ninth grade to start her family, but she continued to educate herself. She was always reading a book and excitedly taught others the things she learned. She loved her Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ above all and shared that love with anyone and everyone who was willing to listen. She was a homemaker in every sense of the word. She was a cheerleader to those around her and believed her children could accomplish anything.

Dinah was born on February 20, 1940, in Hurricane, UT. She was the third of six children born to Elworth H Campbell and Myrle Scow. She married William Riley Landes on November 5, 1955. They were later sealed, along with their three daughters, in the Manti LDS Temple on February 16, 1963. They are the parents of four children.

Dinah met Riley when she was thirteen and immediately felt she had known him before. In 1955, when she was getting ready to start high school, Riley proposed and they were married that fall. Children came soon after and the little family lived in Sandy, where they made many dear friends. Riley's work took them to Las Vegas in 1965 and they raised their family there until Dinah had a yearning to return to her Southern Utah home. Together they built a homestead in Cedar City, a place they hoped would be a refuge for their posterity.

Riley was the love of her life and they literally grew up together. Her heart was broken when he passed away four years ago and although she has enjoyed the companionship of her children and grandchildren, she longed to be reunited with her sweetheart, her parents, and other loved ones. Her faith and testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ was her lifelong strength and her reunion with Him must be her greatest joy!

Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren love and honor her for her the love she shared with them and the many sacrifices on their behalf. Darnell is survived by her four children: Doni (John) Wagner, Patti (Michael) Adams, Jeri (Rick) Bennett, Darin (Lisa) Landes, 21 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren. Her husband, parents, her sister Merlyn, and two granddaughters all preceded her in death. Darnell's family would like to thank friends, doctors, and medical professionals who showed compassion for her during her declining health. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 25, 2016, at the Cedar West Stake Center, Hamilton Fort Ward, 725 South 1100 West, Cedar City, Utah. A visitation will be held in the Relief Society room at 1:00 p.m., with funeral services at 2:00 p.m. Interment at Cedar City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be may to the LDS Church Missionary Fund.
