Impressive Services at Bellard Funeral — Iota, La. May 18. — The funeral of the old Confederate veteran, Simon Bellard, whose death occurred Wednesday, was held with military honors at nine o’clock Thursday morning by ex-soldiers and members of the American Legion who served as active pall bearers. Led by Boy Scouts with the American flag, Capt. J. M. Taylor and H. J. Daigle, old veterans and honorary pall bearers, followed by a large concourse of citizens from town and country in honor and tribute to the lamented dead. The funeral services were most impressive, the Rev. Father Buquet paying an eloquent eulogy on the deceased, as well as to all Catholic soldiers who had served in the Civil and World War, and whose loyalty to their government would always be proven in the future. “Peace to the ashes of our old Comrade and others soon to answer the last roll call.”
